Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction holds a long and privileged place in the Catholic tradition, especially for those who are hoping to go deeper in their faith through regular counsel. Spiritual direction provides a safe and confidential place to talk through what is going on in your life, to find peace amidst stress and anxieties, heal wounds from the past, and grow in your relationship with God and others.

Spiritual direction can be ongoing (weekly, biweekly, monthly), or it can be a one-time meeting as needed, in those times when you may feel overwhelmed &/or just need someone to talk to.

Spiritual direction is similar to counseling, however, rather than focus on a problem or disorder, it focuses on interiority. Interiority is about what is happening inside of us, namely, how we assimilate and process our whole lives. Interiority involves our thoughts and our feelings, our motivations and our memories. We are getting in touch with the ground of our being, with the ultimate meaning of our lives, with our very identity and the truth that defines our existence. Because our one-on-one relationship with God is at the core of our being, when that relationship develops, every other relationship develops as well.

Spiritual direction can also bring tremendous healing. Wounds in the interior life can distort a person’s view of reality, including him/herself, others, and God. The director listens carefully and may point out incongruities and make connections we did not recognize. As this transformation and healing take place, everything else in life is affected in a positive way.
